Community partnership
Care+Wear and Let’s Make Pink Just a Color Continue Brittany Kelley’s Mission
Care+Wear first connected with Let’s Make Pink Just a Color through its founder, Brittany Kelley. Based in Carteret County, the nonprofit supports local people and families affected by breast cancer.
Brittany wanted people receiving cancer care in her community to have access to clothing designed with treatment in mind. She purchased Care+Wear Recovery Bras and Chest Port Access Shirts to donate to her local cancer center. Today, her sister-in-law, Stephanie Jones, and the organization’s board are carrying that effort forward through community events, local business partnerships, and the Pink Relief Grant.
Care+Wear and Let’s Make Pink Just a Color share a commitment to supporting people through treatment with practical, community-based care.
A Community Comes Together for Breast Cancer Support
When Brittany Kelley was living with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer, she wanted people in her community to have support close to home. In 2023, she organized the first “Pink is Just a Color” run and walk in Carteret County, North Carolina.
More than 400 people took part, raising over $38,000 for the local breast cancer community. The event grew the following year, raising more than $50,000. In 2025, the first year without Brittany, more than 800 people came together and raised nearly $100,000 in her honor. Every dollar raised stays in Carteret County to support people affected by breast cancer.
Brittany passed away on September 28, 2025, at age 37, after her fight with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer. Before her passing, she had started the process of making Let’s Make Pink Just a Color an official nonprofit organization. Her sister-in-law, Stephanie Jones, and the board have since completed that work. Stephanie is continuing Brittany’s mission and finding new ways to support the community they both care about.
Support Beyond the Annual Breast Cancer Walk
The annual walk brings people together around a shared cause. Let’s Make Pink Just a Color is also building ways for the community to support people through the weeks and months of treatment.
Through Partners in Pink, local businesses can choose a product or promotion during October and donate a portion of its sales to the organization. It gives businesses a concrete way to take part and helps bring more of the local community into the effort.
The Pink Relief Grant offers support directly to people with breast cancer in Carteret County. It can help with everyday expenses such as rent and utilities, bills that continue while someone is managing treatment.
Together, these programs carry the care behind the annual event into more parts of community life. Local businesses can contribute, and people receiving treatment can get help with expenses at home.
Continuing the Connection with Care+Wear
Brittany first supported Carteret Health Care’s cancer center with a donation of Care+Wear apparel designed for breast cancer treatment and recovery. Stephanie has continued that support, most recently purchasing Chest Port Access Shirts and Post-Surgical Recovery Bras for the center.
At Care+Wear, we design products for the realities of treatment and share up to 10% of our profits with nonprofit organizations, including Stand Up To Cancer, the American Cancer Society, and The Pink Agenda, which supports breast cancer research and care. Working with Let’s Make Pink Just a Color brings that commitment back to the community Brittany set out to support.
We’re grateful to Stephanie and the board for carrying Brittany’s work forward, and to everyone helping make that support possible in Carteret County.
