Finding Strength in Daily Routines
Getting dressed each day, even when I’m staying home, is an act of resilience for me. It’s so easy to stay in pajamas all day, even all week, especially when I have nowhere to go. But showing up for myself by getting dressed, whether into comfy clothes or a fresh pair of pajamas, reminds me that every day is a new day I get to live. Even small steps like this help me stay connected to life and give me a sense of purpose, even on the hardest days.
The Courage My Body Carries
My body has endured years of pain, discomfort, and emotional challenges, yet it continues to show remarkable courage. I try to honor that courage by being kind to myself. I have been through the depths of pain, grief, discomfort, and even depression, but I have chosen to continue fighting and showing up not just for myself but for everyone around me. Resilience is not just about surviving; it’s about continuing to love, live, and care for myself despite the obstacles.
Supported and Seen Beyond Diagnosis
I am fortunate to have a family, best friend, and partner who see me for who I truly am, not just my diagnoses. They have never treated me differently after my diagnoses, and their love and support mean everything to me. Having people who see and value the whole me gives me the strength to keep moving forward, even when my health challenges feel overwhelming.
Discovering Inner Strength
Before I received my first official diagnosis, I faced a moment of despair. After waiting ten years for answers, I was truly ready to give up. Then I received a letter about an appointment I had been waiting years for, and even though I had no faith anything would come from it, I decided to give it one last try. I dragged myself to that appointment and received my first diagnosis. From that day on, I have dedicated myself to fighting the medical system and never giving up on getting the answers I deserve. Yes, I may take breaks for my own mental health, but I always come back stronger. That moment became a turning point, reinforcing my resilience and determination.
Words of Encouragement for Others
Every day is a new day, a new opportunity to choose life. I know it may not feel like you are truly living right now, and it may feel like you are just existing, but things can and will get better. You will find your people, your community, and hobbies that make your days a little lighter and less mundane. You have survived 100% of your worst days and you are stronger than you may feel. You are not alone.
