Izzy reminds us that “living fully” looks different for everyone, especially when navigating life with chronic illness. For her, summer hasn’t been about nonstop activity or chasing big plans—it’s been about slowing down, listening to her body, and embracing what brings her joy. Her story is a powerful reminder that even the smallest choices toward self-care and presence matter deeply.

Living Fully on My Own Terms
Living fully starts with putting myself first—even if it means being unapologetically selfish. For me, it’s about choosing what’s best for my body in any given moment.
Some days that means giving myself permission to rest without guilt. Other times, it’s saving spoons so I can do something I’ve been looking forward to. I’ve learned that both are valid ways of showing up for myself. Living fully doesn’t always mean doing more—it means doing what feels right for me.
A Proud Summer Moment
This summer, one of the moments I feel most proud of is going to my dream Halsey concert.
Getting there wasn’t just about showing up. It took weeks of planning, pacing, and making sure I built in recovery time afterward. Even though it completely wiped me out physically and kicked my ass, I went in prepared and accepted the trade-off.
To me, that’s real strength—making it happen on my terms. I’m proud I got to create that memory for myself, even knowing what it would cost me.
Redefining Summer Joy
There’s so much pressure to “make the most of summer,” but I’ve had to tune out those expectations. I’ve realized my best summers don’t involve constant activity or chasing after every plan.
Instead, I find joy in quieter moments—painting my nails at home, enjoying the stillness, and soaking in time that doesn’t drain me. I listen closely to my body and do what I can handle. That doesn’t make my summer less valuable; it just makes it different. And different can be just as beautiful.
A Summer Called Pressing Pause
If I had to rename this summer, I’d call it Pressing Pause. It’s been a season to slow down, reassess, and let my body lead the way. Instead of pushing myself past my limits, I’ve learned to embrace a softer pace.
Sometimes living fully doesn’t mean chasing after everything—it means pausing long enough to notice the little joys and giving yourself the grace to rest.
