Would I Choose a Life Without Cancer?
Sometimes I wish people would ask me if I had the chance to choose a life without cancer, would I still choose to go through all this pain and suffering? The answer would still be yes, because all the hard times, the pain, the struggles, the challanges, has shaped me into the person I am today. Cancer has made me realize what I am capable of and more, it showed me my courage.
Learning to Live With Grief
I've recently been more open to talking about how cancer took my dad away, and the process of grieving. Grieving doesn't mean that it gets better or that time heals, it means that we become stronger and begin to learn how to live WITH the pain. It doesn't get easier but we get stronger.
Why Sharing Our Struggles Matters
I hope people will be more open to their illness, sharing their struggles with each other, because even when I find one other person out there battling a similar fight, I already feel less alone, I feel stronger that we can come together and fight together, that I don't ever have to do this by myself.
The Taboo of Choosing Your Own Path
I think a huge taboo is about making your own decisions on how you want to live life. Some want to fight and continue on their battle, others want to choose a comfortable ending, and at the end of the day, I think they should be supported by their family and friends with whatever decisions they want to make.
There are days that have been so physically painful and mentally draining for me that I dream of just letting go and finding peace. But coming from a religious family, my mother doesn't believe in that and would never support that decision. I want people to have that freedom to choose their life and feel supported.
Finding Purpose Through Sharing My Story
When I started using my voice to share my story, I realized that I found others going through the same struggles and I found community and unity through all of it. I found support and encouragement when I was at my lowest. I found that opening up my heart led to letting others share their kindness to me. I also found ways to pass on this kindness to others.
When people tell my that my story inspires them or gives them hope, it makes me feel like all my suffering has a purpose, it was not in vain. I feel so fulfilled. With a single match we cannot do much, but together we can light a fire, pave the way, be the light for others to follow. That is my mission amd my passion. Cancer has given me the gift of courage and a life of purpose.
